Parliament Visits Pelena Australia

The Honourable
Edward Hunuehu, MP for East Are Are,
Malaita,
Solomon Islands, recently visited Pelena’s hydroelectric turbine manufacturing
facility located on the NSW Central Coast, Australia.
"The
Honourable", as he is known to many Malaitans, made a special
detour to the
Central
Coast
factory before heading back to
Solomon Islands
for Christmas. He had been in
Taiwan
in discussions with that government regarding the reconstruction program
for
Solomon Islands
– a country until recently ravaged by civil unrest for the past 3
years.
In
discussions with Pelena’s Managing Director Mr
Peter Lynch, the Honourable expressed his thanks for Pelena’s continued support
for rural energy projects in
Solomon Islands. Pelena manufactures small hydroelectric turbines for remote
villages which allow “communities access to affordable lighting and a
means for self-development” said Mr Lynch. ”Pelena continued
supporting its products right through the civil unrest, when most
foreign organisations withdrew”.
“I
felt it very important that I come and visit the Pelena factory as there
are presently two Pelena turbines supplying electricity to villages in
my constituency” said Hon. Hunuehu. In response, Pelena’s MD,
thanked the Honourable for the trust he and his people had placed in
Pelena, “We are very proud and honoured for your visit and hope in a
strong, healthy, and sustained future working together.”
“There
are currently five Pelena Turbines in Solomon Islands’ villages. Pelena is hoping to be part of the reconstruction of
Solomon Islands, and believes small scale hydroelectricity – generated by the
villages’ own water supply – will provide a sustainable future for
prosperous and peaceful development for many more Solomon Islanders”
said Mr Lynch.
